Kitchen painting in Plymouth, for walls, ceilings and woodwork
Kitchen walls, ceilings and woodwork painted in tough, wipeable finishes, with colour advice from the first visit, across Plymouth and the South Hams.
Who can I trust with kitchen painting in Plymouth?
For kitchen painting in Plymouth that lasts, you need a decorator who prepares surfaces thoroughly and chooses paints that cope with steam, grease and daily wiping. I'm Daniel Riley, a painter and decorator with a designer's eye and over 10 years' experience, and I paint kitchen walls, ceilings and woodwork across Plymouth and the South Hams.
Kitchens work harder than any other room in the house. Cooking puts moisture and grease into the air, and the walls around the hob, sink and bin get wiped far more often than a bedroom wall ever will. That is why I usually suggest a durable, scrubbable finish for kitchen walls and a hard-wearing eggshell or satinwood on skirting, door frames and doors.
Colour matters just as much as durability. On a whole-home project in Kingsbridge, I colour matched some of the kitchen walls to the units so they looked built in, as part of a scheme based on Farrow & Ball Strong White. If you are not sure where to start, colour and design advice is part of every job, and you can see more of my recent work before you decide. If your kitchen opens onto a dining or living area, I can plan the whole space together with my living room decorating.

QUESTIONS
What is the best paint for kitchen walls?
The best paint for kitchen walls is a durable, scrubbable emulsion made to handle moisture and grease, usually in a matt or soft sheen finish. Kitchen woodwork such as skirting, door frames and doors is better in eggshell or satinwood, which is harder wearing and easy to wipe clean. I recommend specific finishes on the first visit.
How should kitchen walls be prepared before painting?
Kitchen walls need degreasing before painting, because paint will not grip properly over cooking residue. After cleaning, cracks and holes are filled, surfaces are sanded smooth and any stains are sealed so they do not bleed through. Good preparation is the difference between a kitchen finish that lasts for years and one that marks within months.
Can you help me choose colours for my kitchen?
Choosing kitchen colours is easier with someone who can see the room, its light and the units in person. As a painter and decorator with a designer's eye, I offer colour advice from the first visit and can suggest schemes that work with your worktops, flooring and cabinetry, including colour matching walls to units.
How long does it take to paint a kitchen?
The time it takes to paint a kitchen depends on its size, the condition of the walls and ceiling, and how much woodwork is involved. Preparation often takes as long as the painting itself. I give you a clear idea of timings with your free quote, so you can plan meals and the rest of your week around the work.
Do you offer kitchen painting outside Plymouth?
Kitchen painting is available across Plymouth and the South Hams, including Ivybridge, Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Dartmouth. I'm based in Plymouth and visit every home before quoting, so the price reflects the real kitchen rather than a guess. Call 07476 131999 to arrange a visit.
