Who is Daniel Riley, the decorator in Plymouth?

I'm Daniel Riley, a painter and decorator based in Plymouth with over 10 years' experience in painting and decorating, interior design and project management. I decorate homes and businesses across Plymouth and the South Hams, and colour and design advice is part of how I work from the very first visit.

That mix is what makes my work a little different. A good decorator gets the paint on cleanly. I want the room to feel right when it's finished, which means thinking about colour, light, woodwork and the small details as well as the walls.

As I put it on my old website: "I love it when customers have complete faith in letting me advise on colour and detailing and take pride in taking bland rooms and making them fit for a King or Queen." That still sums up why I do this job.

Who will be working in my home?

On most jobs it's me and Sam. Customers often mention us both by name in their reviews, and Sam knows how I like things done, from the preparation to the final coat. On larger projects, such as a whole house or a commercial space, a wider team joins us so the work keeps moving.

Decorating often turns up other jobs: a door that sticks, a ceiling that needs plastering, a shelf you've always wanted. I know trusted carpenters and plasterers and I'm happy to put you in touch, so you're not left searching for someone you can rely on.

How does Daniel help with colour and design?

Lots of people come to me unsure where to start. I spend time getting to know your home and your style, then talk through colours, finishes and the details that pull a room together, such as lighting and door handles. There's more on my colour and interior design advice page.

Advice is never pushed on you. Some customers know exactly what they want and simply need it done properly. Others are happy to let me lead. Either way, colours and details are agreed before a brush comes out.

How will you look after my home and my budget?

I work with integrity and try to keep my impact on the environment low. Furniture and floors are protected, surfaces are filled and sanded properly, and I tidy up every day so you come home to a house you can still live in.

What Daniel actually did: helped me choose the right colours, organised repairs to plasterwork, ceilings and chimney when we discovered damp from all the bad weather (and sorted all scaffolding required!), fixed my wobbly stair bannister, arranged my internal doors to be stripped and refreshed, and even put me in touch with some brilliant plumbers to get other jobs done around the house. He seems to know all the best tradespeople in Plymouth; I've been happy with every one of them.
