Bathroom decorating in Plymouth, with paint that copes with steam
Bathrooms, en suites and cloakrooms decorated with moisture-resistant paints and proper mould preparation, across Plymouth and the South Hams.
What should I look for in bathroom decorating in Plymouth?
Good bathroom decorating in Plymouth starts with preparation and the right paint. Steam and condensation mean bathroom walls and ceilings need cleaning and treating for mould, then painting in a moisture-resistant finish. I'm Daniel Riley, a painter and decorator with over 10 years' experience, and I decorate bathrooms, en suites and cloakrooms across Plymouth and the South Hams.
Peeling, flaking or spotty bathroom ceilings usually come down to moisture. Paint applied over mould, soap residue or damp plaster will not hold for long, however good the paint. So the work starts with cleaning and treating any mould, letting surfaces dry properly, filling and sanding, and only then painting with a finish designed for humid rooms.
Ventilation matters too. A moisture-resistant paint helps, but if the extractor fan is weak or the window rarely opens, condensation will keep coming back, so I'll be honest about that on the first visit. If the plaster needs more than filling, I know trusted plasterers and can put you in touch. A recent whole-house project included a family bathroom and en suite, and you can find out more about my interior painting and decorating for the rest of your home.

WHY CHOOSE DANIEL
Preparation first
Most bathroom paint failures start with poor preparation, so I clean, treat and dry surfaces properly before any paint goes on.
A designer's eye
Small rooms need careful colour choices. I offer colour advice from the first visit so your bathroom feels brighter and calmer, not smaller.
Honest advice
If ventilation or plaster is the real problem, I'll tell you, and I can put you in touch with trusted trades rather than painting over it.

QUESTIONS
What is the best paint for a bathroom?
The best paint for a bathroom is a moisture-resistant emulsion made for humid rooms, often with a mould-resistant formula and a soft sheen that wipes clean. Bathroom woodwork such as doors, skirting and boxing is better in a hard-wearing eggshell or satinwood. I recommend specific paints on the first visit, based on how the room is used.
Can you paint over mould in a bathroom?
Painting over mould in a bathroom is a false economy, because the mould usually grows back through the new paint within weeks. Mould should be cleaned off and treated, and the surface left to dry fully before painting. That preparation, plus a moisture-resistant paint and good ventilation, gives a bathroom finish the best chance of lasting.
How do I stop mould coming back on my bathroom ceiling?
Stopping mould coming back on a bathroom ceiling means dealing with moisture as well as the paint. Treat the existing mould, use a moisture-resistant paint, and make sure steam can escape through a working extractor fan or an open window after every bath or shower. Wiping condensation off cold surfaces also helps.
Do you decorate en suites and small cloakrooms?
En suites and small cloakrooms are part of my bathroom decorating work across Plymouth and the South Hams. Small rooms often need the most careful preparation and colour choices, because every mark shows and the wrong colour can make the space feel cramped. I can also decorate a bathroom and en suite together as one job.
How much does bathroom decorating in Plymouth cost?
The cost of bathroom decorating in Plymouth depends on the size of the room, the condition of the walls and ceiling, and how much mould or repair work is needed.
